The European Research Council’s (ERC) mission is to encourage the highest quality research in Europe through competitive funding and to support investigator-driven frontier research across all fields, on the basis of scientific excellence. In 2017, Institut Curie has been awarded 4 ERC starting grants.
Team leader Jean-Léon Maître presents in video the ERC project of his team Mechanics of mammalian development (CNRS/Inserm/Institut Curie). Researchers aim to understand how the mammalian embryo is built. They study how the forces that deform and move the cells within the embryo are produced. Usual suspects are adhesion molecules, gluing cells together, and the cytoskeleton, which can push and pull on these adhesion molecules.
